FAQ

Regarding orders

Q1.How long does it take from application to delivery?

A1. For custom-made kimonos, haori, etc. that require tailoring, it usually takes about 40 days from (order reception) → (washing the fabric/tailoring) → (shipping). If you plan to wear the item, we would appreciate it if you would consider it as soon as possible. Ready-made items and accessories that do not require tailoring and are in stock at the store will be shipped on the day of your order or the next day. When ordering, we will notify you of the arrival and shipping date by email.

Q2.Does the listed price include tailoring fees?

A2. The listed price includes the cost of watering and tailoring. Additional options are "lined tailoring (including fabric)" for an additional 6,000 yen, "with silk lining" for an additional 2,000 yen, and "wide collar tailoring (with lining)" for 800 yen (excluding tax). You can specify the same fabric for the lining. *In the case of locally woven fabrics, there may not be enough of the same fabric for the lining depending on the tailoring length. We will notify you in advance of the tailoring.

Q3. Can I purchase just the fabric?

A3. Only small bolts of fabric such as Katakai cotton and Ise cotton, as well as silk wool, can be purchased. Our original (KUON WOMEN)/(SUI MEN) kimonos and haori are made to order, so the fabric cannot be purchased. To purchase bolts of fabric from local textiles, please select "No tailoring, bolt only" from the drop-down menu in the shopping cart.

Q4. I would like to see the actual product in the store. Is that possible?

A4. Of course you can. You can actually see the products you have checked online at the store. Please feel free to check the color and texture of the fabric. If you like the product, we can take your measurements and place an order on the spot. We also have a pattern where you just take your measurements and then order online. We will store the data of your measurements taken at the store, so you can use it whenever it is convenient for you. In order to make preparations and other support smoother, we would appreciate it if you could let us know the date of your visit in advance. In that case, we would appreciate it if you could make a reservation.

About tailoring

Q1. This is my first time ordering a kimono, so I don't know the measurements. Also, ready-made sizes don't fit me.

A1. Please consider the ready-made sizes as a guide only. We will tailor your kimono to your size that is comfortable to wear according to your body type. If you are having your kimono tailored for the first time, we will ask you about your body size (height, bust, waist, hips, sleeve length/hand length) and calculate the kimono size.

Q2. (Sleeve length) Where should I measure my arm length?

A2.Please measure three points: from the base of the neck (guriguri) to the base of the shoulder, from the base of the shoulder to the wrist bone (guriguri), and with your arm open about 45 degrees, from the bone at the back of the neck to the wrist bone.

Q3. How should I measure the length of the haori coat? Also, what length should it be?

A3. Since it is a fully custom-made product, we can tailor it to your preferred length. When measuring, please stand tall and measure from the bone at the back of your neck (gri-gri) to your preferred length. Please also take into consideration the sleeve length of the kimono you will be wearing. If you leave it to us, please let us know your height and we will tailor the haori length to suit your height. Recently, long haori that reach the knees have become mainstream for both men and women. For women, we recommend that the length be about 10cm longer than the knees, and for men, the length should reach the knees.

Q4. Is it better to add a lining to a cotton kimono?

A4. We recommend using a lining depending on the thickness and weave of the fabric. Our lining is a smooth synthetic plain weave. For thin summer fabrics such as cotton linen and linen, we use a synthetic weave lining. Thin fabrics prevent transparency, so we include them with most customers. We can also include a "matching fabric" that is the same as the outer fabric. Please note that when tailoring with a narrow roll of fabric, there may not be enough fabric for the lining depending on the customer's measurements.

Except for thin summer kimonos, the lining of cotton kimonos is up to the customer's preference, but for those who are used to wearing kimonos and don't mind their footwork or who get hot easily, it may not be attached. It depends on the fabric of the kimono you choose, so please feel free to consult us when ordering.

Q5: Which is better for the collar of a cotton kimono: a bat collar or a wide collar?

A5. You can choose either the bat collar or the wide collar. The bat collar can be worn without folding the collar. It is a casual kimono, so it is recommended for those who want to wear it more easily. The wide collar is folded around the shoulders, so it can be adjusted to fit your body type. If you want to add volume to your chest or feel cramped with the bat collar, we recommend the wide collar. However, in the case of cotton kimonos, the thickness may be too much depending on the fabric. It is difficult to say which is better, but please feel free to consult us if you are unsure as it depends on the fabric. *For the wide collar, an optional fee (800 yen excluding tax for the collar lining) will be charged separately.

Regarding maintenance

Q1. Can I wash a cotton kimono at home? If so, please tell me how to wash it.

A1..Please avoid using chlorine-based detergents and bleach when washing. Fold the back seam and fold the sleeves in thirds. If there are stains such as food spills, soak the kimono in detergent for spot cleaning. Fill the sink or tub with enough water to fully cover the kimono, dissolve an appropriate amount of detergent for delicates, and press wash. Since the dye may transfer, be sure to wash it alone and do not leave it soaked. Discard the detergent solution and rinse with water several times. Dehydrate in a net for about 1 minute. Place it on a flat surface while folded and pat it with your palm to remove wrinkles. Cotton fabric has been water-washed, but do not use a dryer. It may cause shrinkage.

Q2.Do cotton kimonos shrink?

A2.The garment is spun in water while still in roll form to allow the fabric to settle before being tailored, so there is no excessive shrinkage. The fabric will expand and contract with repeated wearing and washing. Using a dryer or exposing it to direct sunlight for a long period of time may cause shrinkage.

Q3. When should I wear a cotton kimono? Is it okay to wear it in the middle of winter?

A3.Even if it is the same cotton, the season for wearing it may vary slightly depending on the weave and thickness of the fabric, but it can be worn for three seasons except midsummer. It can also be worn in the middle of winter if you take measures against the cold with cold weather accessories and undergarments. Our shop also carries original thin cotton kimonos for early summer and summer.
